Crews from around the region responded to a three-alarm fire that broke out at a vacant building in Duryea on Monday afternoon.
Firefighters were dispatched to 404 Main St., the location of the former Yuhas and Sons Bar, shortly before 2 p.m.
Responders sounded a second and then third alarm as firefighters reported a working fire at the rear of the building. The structure reportedly sustained a partial roof collapse as videos and photos from the scene showed flames leaping skyward and churning out a black plume of smoke.
Firefighters reported that PPL had been dispatched to cut power in the area. Over 1,200 customers were affected by the incident, according to PPL’s outage map.
Crews from across the region, including from Lackawanna County, responded to battle the blaze.
Duryea police closed down Main Street from Marcy Street to Lackawanna Avenue due to the fire, which was burning at Main Street’s intersection of Stephenson Street.
Officers advised the public to avoid the area.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
