While airports around the country have split over whether or not to play a video with a message from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, a recent walk through Lehigh Valley International Airport found no sign of the video.
In the video, Noem blames Democrats for the federal government shutdown and its effects on Transportation Security Administration operations.
Several airports around the country, including Philadelphia International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport, did not show the video because its political content goes against their policies or regulations prohibiting political messaging in their facilities.
The Morning Call made multiple attempts to contact LVIA management on its stance and received no response. A reporter walked through the terminal in Hanover Township, Lehigh County, last week, finding several screens with normal flight and weather information. A video screen at the security checkpoint entrance was turned off as passengers were entering to catch an evening flight.
The shutdown has disrupted routine operations at some airports, leading to flight delays. In the video, Noem says the TSA’s “top priority” is to help make travel pleasant and efficient while keeping passengers safe.
“However, Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government, and because of this, many of our operations are impacted, and most of our TSA employees are working without pay,” she continues.
