Police arrested a man who they say is suspected of hitting two teenagers with a car in Wilkinsburg on Thursday night.The man charged in the case is also connected to a woman who was stabbed and killed in Penn Hills.George Mitchell Jr., 43, the man charged with hitting the teens, was taken into custody outside a home on Penny Drive in Penn Hills, where he once lived with the woman who investigators say was stabbed to death there hours earlier.Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 was there when Mitchell was taken into custody after police say he hit two teenagers in Wilkinsburg and fled.Sky 4 flew over the scene in Wilkinsburg shortly after Angela Sibley’s daughter and her friend were struck.“Prudence was crying, but she was not moving. She knew she was in pain, she knew she couldn’t move, and we were comforting her,” Sibley said.According to police, Mitchell was driving a black Cadillac when he struck them, and investigators say he hit several others as well. Police found and towed a Cadillac with a smashed windshield in Penn Hills. Sources told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 reporter Marcie Cipriani that the car is the one Mitchell was believed to be driving.After an hourslong search, police found Mitchell on Penny Drive. The house that he was found near, according to police, was the scene of a homicide earlier in the day. Police say Jinx Hairston, 45, was stabbed to death there.”Jinx, my neighbor — nice lady. I never knew anything bad about her, so I don’t really know what was going on. And then my neighbor called me and told me that the reason the police were here was because of the car, and that Jinx got stabbed,” Daniel Gonnelly said.According to court papers, Mitchell used to live at the home with Hairston until the woman filed a protection-from-abuse order years ago, evicting him and preventing him from coming back.“It’s very quiet here,” Gonnelly said. “To hear all that, and to wake up this morning and see she was stabbed and she died, I was like, ‘Oh my God.'”Police have not released any details about Hairston’s death or named a suspect.Although Mitchell was found near her home, where court papers show he once lived, he has not been charged with any crime in the death of Hairston.Mitchell is charged with two counts each of attempted homicide and aggravated assault in connection with the girls who were struck in Wilkinsburg.Download the WTAE app to stay connected with breaking news.
