The New York Yankees have promoted top outfield prospect Spencer Jones to the Major League roster ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.
Jones will wear No. #78 for New York, becoming the first player in franchise history to wear that jersey number.
The Yankees’ No. 6 overall prospect was selected in the first round (25th overall) of the 2022 MLB Draft out of Vanderbilt University. The 24-year-old left-handed hitter stands 6-foot-7 and 240 pounds and has drawn comparisons in discussion to New York captain Aaron Judge due to his size profile.
At Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2026, Jones recorded a .258/.366/.592 slash line with 25 runs, 31 hits, 7 doubles, 11 home runs, 41 RBI, and 7 stolen bases across 33 games. His 41 RBI lead all Minor League Baseball, while his 11 home runs are tied for fifth overall.
Across his minor league career, Jones has produced a .270/.351/.497 line with 292 runs, 436 hits, 95 doubles, 11 triples, 83 home runs, 277 RBI, and 116 stolen bases in 413 games.
During his time with Double-A Somerset from 2023 to 2025, he hit .263/.349/.482 with 124 runs, 191 hits, 39 doubles, 6 triples, 36 home runs, 120 RBI, and 43 stolen bases in 188 games. He became the 56th Somerset Patriot to reach the Major Leagues since the affiliate relationship began in 2021.
Jones also put together a strong 2024 season split between Double-A and Triple-A, belting 35 home runs with a .982 OPS. In 2024 with Somerset specifically, he finished with a .789 OPS with 30 doubles and 17 home runs. He previously smashed 16 home runs in 25 games during lower-level Florida ball in 2023.
His resume includes selections to the 2023 and 2024 All-Star Futures Games, Spring Breakout appearances in 2024 and 2025, a 2023 MiLB Organization All-Star nod, a 2024 Eastern League Postseason All-Star selection, and the 2024 James P. Dawson Award as the Yankees’ most outstanding rookie in spring training.
The move comes as Jasson Domínguez was placed on the 10-day injured list with a low-grade AC shoulder sprain suffered while crashing into the wall during a catch in a 9-2 win over the Texas Rangers. New York also recalled Kervin Castro and optioned Brendan Beck after his 52-pitch MLB debut.
The Yankees enter the series tied for the best record in baseball at 26-12.
