John Roger Sebastianelli, M.D.
OBITUARY
John Roger Sebastianelli, M.D., 78, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 13, 2026 at Discovery Assisted Living in Quincy, Massachusetts where he resided for the past year.
Born on September 9, 1947, John was the beloved son of the late Benjamin and Eleanor (Ciabocchi) Sebastianelli. His paternal grandparents were John and Violet Sebastianelli and maternal grandparents were Roger Ciabocchi, Helen Zaydon and Louis Zaydon.
John was a graduate of Blakely High School, Class of 1965; a Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Scranton in 1969 and obtained his medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in 1973. He completed his residency at St. Christopher’s Hospital in Philadelphia, specializing in pediatric hematology and oncology. During that time, he was deeply involved in research on pediatric leukemia, publishing several articles in the Journal of the American Medical Association. John was then awarded a fellowship specializing in psychiatry at the University of California Los Angeles, in 1982. After working for a few years in Los Angeles, he relocated to Boston, Massachusetts. He built a successful and impactful career in various hospitals and facilities as a psychiatrist for over 40 years in the greater Boston area, leaving a lasting impact on all that he worked with. John was not only a brilliant psychiatrist and clinician, but also a generous, loving and considerate man.
John was preceded in death by his parents, nephew, Jeffrey Sebastianelli and great niece, Jessica Sebastianelli. He is survived by his brother, Benjamin Sebastianelli (and wife Robin), Sturges, PA; sister, Linda Pero (and husband Tony), Taylor, PA; nephew, Jeremy Sebastianelli, nieces, Janine Baux and Nina Riggall, nine great nieces and nephews; three great-great nieces and nephews; uncle, Louis Zaydon Jr. (and wife Lisa); several cousins and former wife, Jill Gochanour.
He was a unique and remarkable man who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial Mass to honor John, for friends and family to attend, will be held on Friday, May 15th, at 1:00PM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church (1101 Willow St.) in Peckville, PA.
