(WTAJ) — After the U.S. added jobs in August and the U.S. unemployment rate has stayed relatively steady the past year, Pennsylvania was named one of the worst states for jobs by a new WalletHub report.

WalletHub compared 34 key indicators for job growth across all 50 states to determine the best — and worst — states for jobs.

Coming in at number one is Massachusetts, followed by Connecticut. The worst state is West Virginia.

As for Pennsylvania, the Commonwealth ranked 44, making it the 7th worst state for jobs in the United States.

In job opportunities, Vermont and New Hampshire ranked one and two, respectively. Employment growth saw Connecticut and Mississippi top the list, while Texas and New York topped for the monthly average starting salary.

The lowest unemployment rate goes to Vermont, while Virginia took the number one spot for median annual income.

Utah saw the shortest time spent working, and South Dakota took the win for the shortest time spent commuting. Montana took the top spot for the least amount of work-related stress.

While Pennsylvania didn’t rank in the top five in any of the above categories, the Commonwealth also stayed out of the bottom five of each list.

The U.S. reported 22,000 jobs in August, while the yearly unemployment rate has hovered between 4% and 4.3% on average. Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate in August was 4%.
