The Erie Commodores return to action for their 17th season when they open the year on Saturday. The Commodores will begin the season against Niagara 1812 at 7 p.m.
Erie will play all its games this season at Saxon Stadium on the campus of Mercyhurst University.
“Players are getting to know each other but we saw the quality, said first-year head coach Catalin Silviu Nastuta. “We saw high-quality from individuals. With the help of the system and the way that we play, I think its going to get together well.”
Nastuta, a native of Spain, steps in as head coach after serving as an assistant coach at Point Park University in 2025. He played two seasons at Eastern New Mexico University to conclude his playing career. He spent his first two college seasons at Oklahoma Panhandle State University..
“For me as a new head coach for the Commodores, its very special for this opportunity that was given,” and for all this support that I had from the club to bring my own staff and to bring a high group of quality players,” said Nastuta. “
The team will face the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Wednesday at 5 p.m. in an exhibition matchup at Saxon Stadium.
