Some much-needed rain is expected Thursday in the Lehigh Valley as a strong storm system makes its way through the region.
Widespread heavy rain, strong wind gusts and thunderstorms are all possible, with up to 2 inches of rain possible in the Lehigh Valley, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey.
Rain should start late Wednesday or early Thursday and will continue until Friday, forecasters said. It should be light to moderate, then could be heavy by Thursday night. Wind gusts of 35-40 mph are expected.
North of the region, in the Poconos, 2-3 inches of rain could fall.
The rain should clear up by early Friday, in time for trick-or-treating, but forecasters said there is still a possibility of strong winds Halloween night.
The expected showers come during a fairly dry period for the Lehigh Valley. There has been below normal rainfall the past few months. Most of the region is in moderate drought conditions, according to the U.S. Drought monitor.
