The sound of sizzling omelets and crowded dining rooms fills Cooper’s Seafood House on Sunday morning, as families gather to celebrate Mother’s Day together. The restaurant hosts its annual Mother’s Day brunch event, now in its third year, bringing generations of families together.

For Freda Moore, the celebration is also a return to memories from years ago. She says she lived in Scranton when she was a mother of one and remembers coming to Cooper’s back then, something she now continues with her eight children and grandchildren. “I had other plans this morning, but then I was surprised by my family. Next thing I know, I’m back here at Cooper’s again. I enjoy the food here. The people are friendly here, so I just love it,” says Moore.
The restaurant’s catering and event manager, Janet Strelecki, says events like this are about more than brunch; they’re about giving families a place to connect. “Just seeing all the mothers, everyone happy, and families coming together.”
Some families attend the Mother’s Day brunch for the first time.
Jeanatte Mitchell says, “This is our first time. We’re here with the family. All the moms of the family. We’ve never done this one, and it’s a great buffet so.”
For many moms here Sunday morning, the most important part isn’t what is on the table, but who is sitting around it.
Madison Shields says, “It’s very great. It’s nice to have a family-oriented thing. Not a lot of places do stuff like that.”
