ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Allentown Zoning Hearing Board approved an appeal involving an apartment building Monday night at city hall.
The plan, known as The Quarter, features a seven-story, 44-unit facility at 405 Walnut St. The proposal includes an interior 30-space parking garage and sidewalks along South Fourth Street. A second subdivided lot associated with the plan was not reviewed at this hearing.

The applicant, Monte Kalsi, was granted two dimensional variances. The first involved a support beam designed for the building and its impact on the immediate intersection’s “clear sight triangle.” Officials with the applicant testified that the requested relief would not negatively impact the intersection.
A second variance, for disturbance of steep slope, was granted approval given the issue was not regulated by the ordinance.
Hair salon request
A request to convert a vacant repair garage to a hair salon was continued at the applicant’s request.
The application, slated for 436 N. Second St. was judged by the zoning officer and the board to have “not enough accurate information” involving the property.
