According to investigators, Williams left the home to facilitate a drug transaction and was gone for approximately 50 minutes. Officials said firefighters faced obstacles entering the apartment, and the cause of the fire remains undetermined. Williams is now being charged with third-degree murder, endangering the welfare of children, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person. Police said Williams was denied bail. “This is a heartbreaking, but completely preventable tragedy,” said Erie County District Attorney Elizabeth Hirz. “The evidence shows these young children were left without supervision in a situation where they needed their mother to protect them and keep them safe. Investigators said Danozjna Shalita Marjie Williams was arrested in connection with a deadly fire that broke out at her apartment just before 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 29.
