For emergency preparedness, Scranton will test its Lackawanna River flood protection systems of levee wall closures and warning sirens Friday between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Levee wall closures
According to a city announcement, emergency levee walls will get tested first and cause minor traffic disruptions at the following locations:
• Parker Street bridge between Amelia and Carter avenues.
• Sanderson Avenue bridge between Race and Detty streets.
• Albright Avenue bridge between Court Street and Meylert Avenue.
• Poplar Street bridge between Sanderson and 7th avenues.
• Olive Street bridge between Gordon Avenue and Love Road.
Sirens
Testing of flood warning sirens will follow early Friday afternoon at these two locations:
• The Shawnee Avenue flood siren at the Shawnee Avenue Pumping Station in the Plot neighborhood, near the intersection of Dean Street. The large siren sits atop an approximately 40-foot-tall pole at the foot of a levee of the Lackawanna River.
• The Middle Street flood siren atop a pole at the Middle Street Pumping Station, near Barring Avenue and the Scranton Co-Op Farmers’ Market site.
