Keith Keller, a vendor for NBC Sports, was severely injured after he fell about 50 feet from the scoreboard at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, prior to a “Sunday Night Football” game.
Keller was injured while setting up a remote camera system on the stadium’s main scoreboard on Oct. 25, one day ahead of the Pittsburgh Steelers hosting the Green Bay Packers on SNF. He suffered a lacerated liver and spleen, and shattered both of his legs, according to a GoFundMe fundraiser page set up on his behalf by family and friends.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. when first responders were alerted that a man had fallen from the main scoreboard to the mid-level catwalk area, Pittsburgh Public Safety said in a Facebook post. After rescue medics and firefighters were able to reach Keller, they loaded him into a Stokes basket and lowered him via a rope system to a waiting ambulance.
Keller was transported to the hospital in critical condition, but his “long-term prognosis is good,” the GoFundMe said.
“Keith is doing remarkably well,” Bill Brennan, a friend who helped organized the GoFundMe, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “I love the man like a brother. He is a fantastic person.”
Funds raised from the GoFundMe will go towards medical expenses and related costs, including out-of-pocket expenses for treatments, medication and rehabilitation, according to the page. More than $129,000 of the $180,000 goal has been raised as of Wednesday afternoon.
The Packers defeated the Steelers, 35-25, on SNF.
