A pilot program aims to put healthy food on the table for patients with chronic health conditions in the Commonwealth.
State and local leaders visited Geisinger’s Fresh Food Farmacy along West Olive Street in Scranton as part of a push for funding for the ‘Food is Medicine’ program.
It provides nutritious and medically-tailored meals to Medicaid recipients.
Geisinger Population Health and Quality Vice President Allison Hess says, “Just to be able to see the programs, it’s important for them to understand how these programs not only help support our patients who are food insecure, but also really have a clinical impact and are helping with healthcare outcomes.”
Governor Josh Shapiro’s budget includes $900,000 for the ‘Food Is Medicine’ program. Pennsylvania’s budget is due by June 30th.
