A man from Pennsylvania has admitted in court that he detonated an explosive under the car of his former boss.
Michael Patrick Takacs Jr., 44, of Warminster in Bucks County, pleaded guilty in federal court in Camden on Wednesday to transporting an explosive with the knowledge and intent that it would be used to intimate an individual and used unlawfully to damage and destroy property, the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of New Jersey said in a statement.
After being terminated from his job in April 2025, Takacs made his own improvised explosive device, or IED, federal authorities said. On the morning of July 26, he then transported the device to the home of his former supervisor in Delran and placed it under a vehicle that was parked in the driveway, federal authorities said.
Surveillance recordings captured an explosion under the car at 2:42 a.m., officials said. Additional surveillance footage showed Takacs parking his car across the street and approaching the vehicle in the driveway while carrying a black object, authorities said.
He is then seen on camera placing the object near the driver’s side door and walking back to his car empty handed, officials said.
Takacs remotely detonated the device after leaving the scene, which caused damage to the car and a nearby home, authorities said.
On the morning of the explosion, he also wore a mask, removed the license plates from his car and left his cell phone at home in an effort to avoid detection, federal prosecutors said.
Takacs is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 8.
