(WJET/WFXP)– A Canada-based furniture maker with locations in both Chautauqua County, NY and Erie is shutting down their operations, affecting hundreds of workers in both counties.

According to Chautauqua County Executive PJ Wendel, eSolutions Furniture, formerly known as Bush Industries, is dissolving its company, which will close the Jamestown Furniture location in the Town of Ellicott, along with all of its other locations in the United States, Canada and Asia.

A Pennsylvania WARN notice also listed that Bush Industries’ location in the 2400 block of Robison Road in Erie will also close and went into effect on April 30, the same day as Wendell’s announcement.

In Erie, 51 people are expected to lose their jobs, with Wendell saying over 230 people will lose their jobs in Chautauqua County.

In a statement, County Executive Wendell said the County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency (CCIDA) has been aware of the challenges the business was facing and tried to work with them to no avail, despite bringing in other New York officials and finance experts to help and even reaching out to the Canadian lending syndicate to buy the company.

Wendell said multiple offers were made, all of which were “inexplicably rejected,” adding that eSolutions’ issues were internal.

“The issues facing eSolutions are not the result of anything we are or aren’t doing locally, but rather due to internal business-wide decisions and broader economic factors, forces, and uncertainties. In fact, the CCIDA has a long history of working with and assisting Bush Industries dating back several decades, which helped to sustain their operations to the present,” Wendell said in a statement.

In response, Wendell said the CCIDA and county vow to resurrect the business or find a new tenant for the Town of Ellicott facility.

In the meantime, Wendell also said Chautauqua Works and the Department of Labor will help affected workers find new local employment opportunities and provide resources to help them get on their feet.
