LIMERICK TWP., Pa. – A Swedish company that makes products for “mobile living” is closing its factory in Montgomery County.
Marine Acquisition Inc., doing business as Dometic, filed a notice with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor in accordance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.
Dometic is closing its facility at 640 N. Lewis Road in Limerick Township and laying off 89 people.
According to the WARN notice, the closure is expected to happen by the end of the year. Layoffs will begin in August.
Dometic said some employees will be offered the option to relocate but didn’t specify how many.
Dometic Corporation of the U.S. was founded by Electrolux in 1968. Following a number of mergers and acquisitions, Dometic was bought by a Swedish investment firm in 2001.
The company has a number of other brands in its portfolio, like Igloo, Eskimo Ice and Delta Heat.
Its products include camping equipment, RV accessories, portable air conditioners, and vehicle roof racks.
According to its website, Dometic operates 23 manufacturing and assembly sites in 11 countries.
In late 2024, Dometic announced a global restructuring plan that included closing two manufacturing sites and five distribution centers as well as the “rightsizing of resources” in manufacturing, supply and support functions.
Approximately 500 employees are expected to be impacted by the time implementation is complete by the end of this year, the company said in a 2024 news release announcing the changes.
