Bethlehem Area School District officials announced Thursday the appointment of Jennifer Cierech as principal of Calypso Elementary School, pending school board approval.
Cierech brings more than 20 years of experience in the district, where she has held multiple positions throughout her career. She started as a Spanish teacher and has worked at both elementary and secondary levels, served as Spanish K–5 Program Lead, and currently works as assistant principal at Broughal Middle School. She recently served as interim principal at Calypso in West Bethlehem.
“I am honored to serve the Calypso Elementary community in this new role,” Cierech said in a statement from the district. “Having grown within BASD as both a teacher and leader, I am strongly committed to supporting students, empowering staff, and building strong partnerships with families and the community to ensure every child thrives.”
During her time as interim principal at Calypso, Cierech focused on fostering a student-centered school climate and building relationships with students, staff and families, according to the district.
Superintendent Jack Silva praised Cierech’s progression through the district’s ranks.
“Jennifer Cierech exemplifies the best of Bethlehem Area School District; she is a homegrown leader whose career has flourished here, starting as a classroom teacher and rising through the administrative ranks through dedication, expertise, and an unwavering commitment to students,” Silva said in a statement. “Her recent leadership at Calypso Elementary made a meaningful impact, and we are confident she will continue to build a positive, high-achieving school community as principal.”
Cierech earned two master’s degrees from Moravian University, one in educational leadership and another in curriculum and instruction. She holds a bachelor’s degree in education (Spanish K–12) from Shippensburg University and is certified in student assistance and restorative practices.
The Bethlehem Area School District serves more than 12,240 students across 22 schools in five municipalities: Bethlehem, Bethlehem Township, Hanover Township, Freemansburg and Fountain Hill. It is the sixth-largest school district in Pennsylvania.
