Jennifer Cierech, a longtime Bethlehem Area School District educator with administrative and Spanish teaching experience, has been named the next principal of Bethlehem’s Calypso Elementary, pending board approval that is expected Monday.

Cierech has 20 years of experience in the district. She started as a Spanish teacher, working at both elementary and secondary schools, and then went on to serve as the Spanish K–5 program lead before becoming the assistant principal at Broughal Middle School.

Cierech also “recently served as Interim Principal at Calypso Elementary School, where she helped foster a school climate focused on student success and strong relationships with students, staff, and families,” a school district news release sent Thursday said.

“I am honored to serve the Calypso Elementary community in this new role,” Cierech said in the news release. “Having grown within BASD as both a teacher and leader, I am strongly committed to supporting students, empowering staff, and building strong partnerships with families and the community to ensure every child thrives.”

Cierech holds master’s degrees in educational leadership and in curriculum and instruction from Moravian University, as well as a bachelor’s degree in education from Shippensburg University, the news release said.

“Jennifer Cierech exemplifies the best of Bethlehem Area School District; she is a homegrown leader whose career has flourished here, starting as a classroom teacher and rising through the administrative ranks through dedication, expertise, and an unwavering commitment to students,” Superintendent Jack Silva said in the news release. “Her recent leadership at Calypso Elementary made a meaningful impact, and we are confident she will continue to build a positive, high-achieving school community as principal.”
