READING, Pa. – Authorities in Reading are investigating a fatal stabbing.
On Saturday, May 9, the Berks County Coroner’s Office was notified by Reading Hospital that an individual suffering from apparent stab wounds had been pronounced dead at the hospital.
The man, later identified as 56-year-old Leonardo Mercado Gomez of Reading, was discovered by a passerby on River Road between the Buttonwood Street Bridge and W. Washington Street.
According to family members, Mercado Gomez was walking home from work at Sun Rich Foods, located in the 400 block of Gateway Drive, when he was attacked.
An autopsy determined the cause of death was multiple stab wounds and the manner of death homicide.
