Governor Josh Shapiro launched Pennsylvania’s first-ever housing action plan February of this year and on Friday his administration visited Erie to take a look at a local affordable housing project.
The Triangle of Hope is a partnership between the Mercy Center for Women, the Hamot Health Foundation and the Mazzini Charitable Foundation to address the housing crisis here in Erie through three redevelopment projects.

And on Friday, the Department of Community and Economic Development Secretary Rick Siger visited one of those projects.The former Washington School Building will be renovated into an affordable housing complex for unhoused men.

Hamot Health Foundation President Charles “Boo” Hagerty said, “The state has told us for years; Erie, you need to speak with us in one voice and when you speak with us in one voice, we’re gonna listen a little bit better, you know, and I think it’s a testament to the Erie community coming together, being collaborative, the mayor and the county executive were in lockstep with this, the non-profits are in lock step with this, and Secretary Siger really recognized that today.”
Secretary Siger said that investing in affordable housing projects is important and supports what the Triangle of Hope is doing.
