A community town hall underway this hour brought people together in Erie to talk about how different issues overlap — from youth involvement to mental health to small business support.
Community members filled the 10/20 Collective for a town hall centered on intersectionality — the idea that issues like immigration, mental health, civic engagement, and economic opportunity all overlap.
Part of the event let residents break out into multiple groups to share how they can lift Erie up and what everyone can offer in this city.
Deonte Cooley, the main speaker and organizer, shared why these intersectional conversations matter.
He also said even when the vandalism was not believed to be hate-driven, it is still a reminder of the work ahead.
“We spoke to Sara here at 10/20. She told us the vandalism does not appear to have targeted their business specifically, since it has been happening frequently in the area. Still, she says it raises awareness because the community needs to ensure spaces like this remain safe.” Deonte Cooley, the speaker and townhall organizer shared.
The 10/20 Collective plans to keep hosting events like this, focused on listening, learning, and building community.
