Reading FC midfielder Charlie Savage has garnered a lot of interest ahead of the summer transfer window with Championship sides Cardiff City, Lincoln City, Blackburn Rovers and now recently relegated Sheffield Wednesday all interested in securing the former Welsh international’s services.
In January Savage’s future at Reading FC was in question as a host of clubs showed interest in the 23-year-old, with local rivals, and recently relegated Oxford United, seeing a bid rejected for the midfielder.
The Yellows reportedly tried to buy the star Reading FC midfielder for a fee of £500,000 which was swiftly rejected, The Reading Chronicle reported at the time that Reading FC held firm with their valuation of Charlie Savage being well over £1.5 million, and that they would not let the midfielder go unless a club matches their own valuation.
It is understood that a fee of £800,000 would be considered enough to secure Charlie, with only another year left on his contract with Reading.
Last summer it was reported that Portsmouth were involved in a battle with Birmingham, Wrexham and Blackburn Rovers to land the son of former Wales and Blackburn midfielder Robbie Savage – Though Charlie ultimately decided to stay in Berkshire for another season, and Portsmouth have quashed any interest in the Manchester United graduate.
Cardiff City could be an attractive opportunity for the Welshman, as he looks to develop in his career and have a shot at returning to the national team to play in the UEFA Nations League – and would add to the Bluebirds young roster of midfielders.
Charlie Savage has been a mainstay in the Reading starting eleven, only missing three game at this season due to a foot injury picked up before the clash with Cardiff City in April which the midfielder is currently recovering from.
