Erie Middle School and two Boulder Valley high schools were cleared after taking precautionary measures amid a series of unverified threats on Monday morning.

Erie Middle School was cleared as of 1:50 p.m. after going on a lockdown at about 11:30 a.m. for an unverified bomb threat, according to Erie Police Department spokesperson Amber Luttrell. Centaurus High School in Lafayette and Broomfield High School were cleared and taken off their hold as of about 11:55 a.m., according to Boulder Valley School District spokesperson Randy Barber.

There was no evidence of explosives or legitimate threats to anyone’s safety, according to an Erie Police Department post on Facebook. Police had used bomb detection, drones and conducted a coordinated search of the Middle School’s campus, according to the post.

“We understand incidents like this are deeply concerning for students, parents, staff, and the entire community,” the post read. “We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during today’s response as we worked to ensure the safety of all involved.”

Erie Middle School had lifted its lockdown and gone on a hold at about 1:12 p.m. while police finished its search of the building, the post states.

Erie Middle School officials said that its unverified threat may be swatting, according to an alert on its website.

The Lafayette Police Department cleared Centaurus High School and called the threat not credible as of about noon, according to a post on X. Lafayette Police first responded to the threat at the school at 10:59 a.m., according to spokesperson Jeremy Molander.

The high schools had gone into a hold by 11:20 a.m. Each of those two schools had received an unverified threat in a phone call, Barber said. Barber would not describe what kind of threat was made.

Boulder Valley School District officials had no reason to believe a higher security status was necessary, Barber said.

Erie Middle School is in the St. Vrain Valley School District.

A hold status means schools keep students and faculty out of the halls and in their classrooms while school operates as normal, according to Barber. Exterior doors remain locked and people cannot go in or out of the buildings, he said.
