ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Pennsylvania State Police say they seized a counterfeit $100 bill from a vehicle in Allentown earlier this month, leading them to believe there could be a larger counterfeit currency scheme.
Troopers conducted a traffic stop on May 5 on a vehicle on Union Boulevard in Allentown suspected to be involved in numerous thefts, according to a news release from state police.
The people in the vehicle were identified, and counterfeit currency was seized from the vehicle, state police said.
The vehicle is believed to be part of a widescale counterfeit currency scheme spanning the Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia areas, according to the news release.
State police say the investigation remains active with the assistance of the U.S. Secret Service and several local law enforcement agencies.
