Authorities charged a man with murder Tuesday in connection with a fatal double shooting that happened over the weekend in Olney.
Officers responded just before 5 a.m. Saturday to the 400 block of W. Grange Street, where they found 25-year-old Michael Davila Rivera dead with a gunshot wound to his head, police said. A 28-year-old man who had been struck multiple times in his torso was hospitalized in critical condition, according to investigators.
Hudhayfah Trice, 28, of Germantown, was arrested Monday, and the officers who took him into custody confiscated a loaded handgun, the PPD said. In addition to murder, he has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime and reckless endangerment.
Police classified the homicide as domestic in nature; however, they provided no further details on what led to the killing.
The Defender Association, which is representing Trice, did not respond to a request for comment. He is being detained without bail, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 17, according to court records.
Through Oct. 27, 189 people had been murdered in Philadelphia, down about 10% compared to the same date last year, police data shows.
