A male is in critical condition after being rescued from a house fire by Upper Darby firefighters Wednesday afternoon in Millbourne.
Upper Darby Assistant Fire Chief Robert Callahan said the call came in at 4:08 p.m. reporting people trapped at a rowhome on the unit block of Erna Court.
Three people were removed by firefighters. One, an older male, on the second floor was in serious condition with burns and smoke inhalation.
He was quickly evaluated by STAT ambulance crews and rushed to a hospital. The two other residents, who were on the first floor, were evaluated on the scene but not transported.

A firefighter suffering dehydration was taken to a hospital for evaluation and released.
“There were hoarding conditions. The fire was in a second floor bedroom. A firefighter found the victim in high heat and smoke conditions and removed the victim with assistance to the front yard where they were accessed and treated by EMS.” Callahan said. “It was quickly contained to the building of origin. It was a quick response, the members were able to quickly remove the occupant and that has a huge impact on the survivability of the victim.”
The call was under control with 15 minutes and crews were on the scene over 90 minutes.
“The (weather) conditions were very hot. Firefighters had to rebab on the scene and hydrate,” Callahan said.
There is no determination yet as to the cause of the fire.
