Community members gathered Thursday evening at Erie Cemetery to celebrate a major milestone the cemetery’s 175th anniversary in an event that blended remembrance, history, and local pride.
Organizers say the evening was about more than honoring those laid to rest. It served as a living tribute to Erie’s rich past, told through the stories of the individuals buried there including veterans, Civil War soldiers, and civil rights pioneers whose lives helped shape the region long before Erie was officially recognized as a city.
“This cemetery is a reflection of our community’s history,” organizers noted. “Every headstone tells a story, and tonight was about bringing those stories to life.”
The free event drew a large crowd and featured a variety of activities designed to both educate and inspire attendees. Guests enjoyed live music performed by the Erie Philharmonic Quartet, adding a reflective and celebratory tone to the occasion.
