Duquesne Light and West Penn Power rates expected to rise
SIGNIFICANTLY, JUST AS WE’VE ALREADY SEEN WITH FUEL PRICES, CASSANDRA HARRISON SAYS SHE IS ALREADY FEELING THE SHOCK FROM PRIOR ELECTRIC RATE INCREASES. SHE IS NOT SURPRISED THAT THE PENNSYLVANIA UTILITY COMMISSION IS ALERTING CUSTOMERS OF MORE INCREASES. MY REACTION TO IT IS JUST THAT EVERYTHING ELSE IS GOING UP, YOU KNOW, I MEAN, THE THE DUQUESNE LIGHT SENT US A MESSAGE ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO SAYING THAT IT WAS GOING TO GO UP, AND NOW IT’S GOING UP YET AGAIN FOR ANOTHER SIX MONTHS LATER. AND I’M SURE IT’S PROBABLY GOING TO GO AGAIN NEXT YEAR. NEW ELECTRIC RATES WILL BE SET BY ALL UTILITY COMPANIES ACROSS THE STATE. RISING FUEL COSTS ARE EXPECTED TO HEAVILY INFLUENCE HOW RATES ARE SET. CUSTOMERS OVERWORKING AC UNITS DURING THE HOT SUMMER MONTHS WILL ALSO FACTOR IN. THAT MEANS ELECTRIC BILLS MAY REACH UNPRECEDENTED AMOUNTS IN SOME HOUSEHOLDS. THIS IS THE SEASONAL RESET FOR ELECTRIC ENERGY PRICES FOR EVERY UTILITY ACROSS PENNSYLVANIA, ANYBODY THAT’S BEEN TRACKING ANY FORM OF ENERGY, WHETHER YOU’RE AT THE GAS STATION, PROPANE, ANY FORM OF FUEL HAS SEEN THOSE FUEL PRICES GO UP. A FORECAST FROM THE PUC SAYS DUQUESNE LIGHT WILL INCREASE ITS RATES BY NEARLY 3%. WEST END POWER WILL SET ITS RATE AT A 10% INCREASE. CUSTOMERS ARE ADVISED TO CONSERVE ENERGY TO SAVE MONEY, SEAL OUT HOT AIR, KEEP COOL AIR IN. MAKE SURE YOUR AC SYSTEM IS IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. I ACTUALLY JUST GOT A NEW DOOR TO KEEP IN. LIKE SOMETIMES, YOU KNOW IF THE HOT AIR COMES IN, EVEN IF YOU HAVE YOUR AIR DOWN AT A AT A DECENT LEVEL, IF YOU DON’T HAVE GOOD INSULATION IN THE HOUSE, I MEAN, ALL THAT HEAT IS GOING TO COME INSIDE. I WAS JUST LOOKING AT A CHEAPER AIR CONDITIONERS, YOU KNOW, TO HELP OUT. WE’LL SEE. ANYTHING YOU PLAN ON DOING TO CONSERVE ENERGY AND SAVE MONEY. TURN THE LIGHTS OFF MORE. ALSO TONIGHT, THE PUC SAYS AFTER THIS SUMMER, THE NEXT SCHEDULED TIME TO RESET ELECTRICAL PRICES IS DECEMBER 1ST.
