One person was killed in a fire that broke out at a West Wyoming Borough home on Wednesday afternoon, according to firefighters.
The fire broke out at the home on Cooper Hill Road around 4 p.m., with initial reports indicating someone was trapped in the building that was engulfed in flames.
Shortly after the initial responders reached the scene, crews sounded a second alarm, drawing a major response from departments across the area.
Firefighters reported facing difficult conditions, battling heavy fire and avoiding live downed electrical wires as they brought the blaze under control.
However, one occupant of the home was killed, firefighters said. The person’s identity was not immediately released.
In a statement posted to Facebook, West Wyoming Hose Company No. 1 thanked the departments that provided assistance during a difficult time.
“Everyone had a job to do, and everyone stepped up and performed their duties to the absolute best of their ability under extremely difficult circumstances,” the post read. “Whether you were operating on the front lines, handling traffic, providing medical care, supplying resources, coordinating communications, or supporting behind the scenes, your efforts mattered. Tragic incidents remind us how strong the emergency service family truly is. We are grateful for the teamwork, professionalism, and dedication shown today.”
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
