Members of Erie City Council said the city needs to focus on residents, but Erie Events said that’s exactly what its proposed market house project was designed to do.
Leaders with Erie Events said they were left confused by council’s decision, arguing their right to build on the site with council’s conditions on the project.
Rejected Bayfront Market House request highlights divisions in city council
Organizers said the vision for the Bayfront Market House includes a family-friendly space focused on local Erie businesses and products, along with a casual restaurant concept and activities designed to attract people.
They explained that the goal has always been creating a space centered on the Erie community.
Gus Pine, executive director of Erie Events said, “Residents in 16501 want the same thing that all of us want. They want to go somewhere after work and grab a beer with a friend. They want to go somewhere with their family and enjoy two hours at a venue where you can entertain your family.”
Pine said an appeal is not currently on the table, and they are now awaiting city council’s required written explanation for the denial and hoping council may reconsider the vote.
