A number of gunshots were heard outside the White House near the North Lawn on Saturday evening just before 6:30 p.m.
According to NBC News reporter Julie Tsirkin at the White House, she heard at around 20 to 30 gunshots.
No source for the gunfire or if there were any injuries have yet been reported. The White House is on lockdown. However, the Secret Service has released a statement saying that they are aware of the incident.
“We are aware of reports of shots fired near 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW and are working to corroborate the information with personnel on the ground,” the statement read. “Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.”
