Memorial Day ceremonies began early this weekend as the Wesleyville community gathered to honor the men and women who served the nation and made the ultimate sacrifice.
A special World War II remembrance ceremony was held Sunday morning at the Wesleyville American Legion.
For the first time, the legion recognized twelve World War II veterans from the Wesleyville area for their service and sacrifice. Four of the veterans’ families attended the ceremony to help commemorate their loved ones’ legacies.
The event featured several traditional military honors, including the presentation of the colors, the playing of Taps, and a performance by a bagpiper.
Organizers said ceremonies like this are an important reminder of the sacrifices made by local service members and the importance of remembering those who gave their lives in service to the country ahead of Memorial Day.
A Memorial Day Ceremony is also set for Monday at the Veteran’s Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m.
