BERKS CO., Pa. – A 23-year-old Pottsville man is suspected of driving under the influence when his Tesla struck a tree early Sunday, severely injuring his passenger.
Pennsylvania State Police say the accident happened on southbound Route 183 just north of N. 4th Street, at approximately 1:56 a.m. Sunday.
The black Tesla sedan was traveling south, but traversed into the northbound lane and struck a tree.
The 23-year-old male passenger in the vehicle suffered severe injuries as a result of the crash, and was taken to a nearby trauma center. He is currently receiving treatment for his injuries.
Police say it is believed that the driver was wearing his seat belt, but the passenger was not.
