EASTON, Pa. – The Easton Criterium is zooming in for the sixth year.
“I think Easton has a lot of charm,” said Caroline Barkman.
She traveled from Boston for another race through center city.
“I did quite well. I ended up getting second place, so I’ve now catted up. I’m a cat three this year, so I’m looking forward to participating in the women’s 3/4,” said Barkman.
Barkman is one of nearly 600 riders here.
“It’s really amazing, right. This is one of the country’s premier events and to be able to have it here in the Lehigh Valley is really special,” said Gabe Lloyd, co-event director.
Lloyd said the Criterium has become a regional draw.
“We actually have a bus load of guys who actually drove up from South Carolina. We have a number of riders from Ohio, New York, Connecticut and New England,” said Lloyd.
All a boost for local businesses, like Scratch. Where food orders keep coming in.
“It was slow and now it’s crazy,” said Michelle Errickson, who works at Scratch.
Errickson said Scratch’s business will likely pick up even more throughout the day.
“We really enjoy all the families that come in. That’s probably the best part,” said Errickson.
All in a city hosting riders, like Barkman for one of the country’s increasingly popular bike events.
“I think it’s a cute town. I am so happy to be back this year. I thought that my first time in Easton last year was fabulous and I think the same thing again this year,” said Barkman.
