A 32-year-old Blakely man faces charges after grabbing a large fillet knife and refusing to let his wife leave their home Friday, police said.
Officers responded to 566 Keystone Ave. around 1:27 p.m. after receiving reports that a male was threatening people with a knife, according to a criminal complaint.
Barbara Seger, the victim’s mother, told police that James Culver — who had a knife — was in the kitchen with her daughter, Meagan Culver, and wouldn’t allow her to leave the house, officers said.
James Culver told officers everything was OK and that they could leave, police said.
But when James and Meagan Culver were standing next to each other near the doorway to the kitchen, he moved behind her and grabbed the knife, according to the criminal complaint.
Blakely Police Chief Guy Salerno pushed James Culver into a cabinet, grabbed him, and moved him away from Meagan Culver and their two children, who were standing in front of them when the altercation occurred, officers said.
Salerno and Senior Patrolman Brandon Walters then tackled James Culver to the ground and handcuffed him, police said.
Meagan Culver told officers James Culver grabbed the knife and said “we need a reset to go back to 2025,” according to the criminal complaint.
Police charged James Culver with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, recklessly endangering another person and simple assault.
As of Sunday, he remained at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 2 at 10 a.m.
