Police say a man has been hospitalized after a vehicle crashed in Philly’s Frankford neighborhood shortly after officers awoke a driver found asleep behind the wheel, officials said.
According to police, the incident happened at about 3:10 a.m. on Monday shortly after officers found a man asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle parked along the 1000 block of Orthodox Street in Philadelphia’s Frankford community.
Upon being awoke by officers, officials said, the man turned on the vehicle and shifted into drive, pulling away from the scene.
But, shortly after, his vehicle veered and struck a tree, police said.
Following the crash, one man was taken to a nearby hospital were, officials said, he was listed in stable condition.
However, officials were not immediately able to confirm if the injured man was the driver or if he was a passenger in the vehicle.
Officials have also not said if the driver could face charges in this incident.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said.
