BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Three people are dead after an incident at a Bethlehem hotel.

Fire and police crews responded to the Comfort Suites in Bethlehem, not far from Lehigh University, around midday Wednesday. The Northampton County coroner was also at the scene.

Bethlehem police say three people were found dead in a room at the hotel. There is no danger to the public, and preliminary indications are that the incident may be drug-related, city police said.

The City of Bethlehem Fire Department-Hazmat Unit initially responded with city police as a precaution and determined the scene was stable for further investigation.

“From what I’m being told, a sister of one of the individuals that was staying in a room on the second floor of the Comfort Inn went to check on his welfare,” said Northampton County District Attorney Terry Houck.

Houck says police were called after the sister found that her brother and two other people had apparently died in the room.

“They arrived. Additional entry was made. It was confirmed we have three individuals deceased in a room,” said county coroner Zach Lysek.

“It was two men and a woman. The two men we believe are in their 40s and the woman is either 29 or early 30s,” Houck said.

Preliminarily, officials believe the incident is drug-related.

“If in fact we do confirm that it was 100% drug-related, it will lead us in a long way as to obviously how they died, but where they got it and things of that nature,” Houck said.
