ALLENTOWN, Pa. – With the weather finally improving many people are ventured outside, enjoying the final hours of their long Memorial Day weekend.
They include some people at Allentown’s Cedar Beach Pool which opened for the season just a few days ago.
The temperatures climbed into the mid-70’s, and the clouds kept the crowds down. Temperatures are beautiful and summer is unofficially here.
“The plan is to enjoy Memorial Day like we’ve never enjoyed it before,” said swimmer Jazmin Shelton.
After a weekend filled with more rain than sun, the temperatures warmed up enough Monday afternoon to make a trip to Cedar Beach Pool worthwhile for Shelton and her son Davine Jones.
“Peek-a-boo weather. You know, like the sun is trying to push through. I feel the heat, because I am hot,” said Shelton.
Cedar Beach Pool is open for another season, featuring slides, a rock-climbing wall, spray features and a chance for families to reconnect and relax.
“It’s gonna be fun. We get to spend time with our friends. We haven’t seen them in a while and it’s good to see people and do things with them so you can have good memories with them,” Jones said.
For others, it was too cool for the swimming pool. Families and neighbors gathered under gazebos for cookouts, while moms like Kim Marshall of Emmaus chased their little kids throughout the Cedar Beach Playground.
“It was cool. It was cooler, but now it’s warmer out. I’m hot from running around, so I might actually take a dip in the pool,” Marshall said.
Back at the pool, kids celebrated the perfect timing of the arrival of the sun for an afternoon swim session.
Cedar Beach Pool is open daily until 7 p.m.
