Josh Shapiro visited West Reading in Berks County Tuesday to highlight the Main Street Matters program, a $60 million initiative aimed at revitalizing downtown spaces and supporting small businesses. Shapiro was joined by the state secretary of community and economic development and several state lawmakers during his visit to the growing community. “It’s something that doesn’t necessarily show up on a spreadsheet, but a successful Main Street has that sense of pride, has that sense of love for community. We hope that these Main Street Matters grants provide an extra boost to be able to strengthen the businesses that are there and bring in more businesses,” Shapiro said. The Main Street Matters program has funded 81 projects so far using state taxpayer dollars, with 56 new projects currently underway.
