A Luzerne County man was arrested after he stole a car and then crashed it in Scranton, police say.
At about 9 a.m. on Tuesday, a vehicle that was reported stolen from Olyphant on Monday evening was spotted by Scranton police officers in the Green Ridge area of the city, using a vehicle license scanner, according to a police release.
Once spotted, the driver quickly sped away and then crashed, police said.
Police were told the suspect, later identified as Sergio Faundez, 36, of Exeter, fled on foot.
Officers established a perimeter around the site of the crashed vehicle and began a search, with the assistance of the Dunmore police and the Lackawanna County district attorney’s office. They also used a Scranton Police Department drone.
A short time later Faundez was identified and taken into custody.
The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending, police said.
