The Foundation for The Reading Public Museum has announced a new membership program designed to make small-group visits to the museum or Neag Planetarium more affordable for nonprofit organizations that provide care services.
Officials said registered nonprofits that provide daylong and residential care services may purchase a pass for $225 per year for access to the museum or planetarium, or $400 per year for access to both facilities.
The pass provides one year of free general admission for up to four enrolled program participants (adults or children) per day. They must be accompanied by at least one staff member from the nonprofit. Each pass may be used once per day, and each organization may purchase up to four passes annually.
“The Reading Public Museum believes access to educational and cultural experiences should be available to everyone,” said Geoffrey K. Fleming, executive director of the Foundation for the Reading Public Museum. “The new nonprofit community organization pass reflects our ongoing commitment to removing barriers for the individuals served by regional care organizations.
“We are proud to provide a program that encourages learning, exploration and meaningful community engagement through regular visits to both the museum and the Neag Planetarium.”
The pass program was inspired in part by another accessibility focused effort — the Library Pass Program — that officials said has been successful.
Through the Library Pass Program, regional libraries can buy passes annually that the public can borrow like books to use for free admission to the museum and reduced admission to the planetarium.
