State Representative Ryan Bizzarro has announced that grant funding will help to revitalize downtown Erie while supporting small businesses.
The funding will be used to help foster small businesses in the downtown area. The Erie Downtown Development Corporation was awarded $850,000 grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to restore part of the Flagship City Commons on North Park Row.
The restoration will provide 40,000 square feet of affordable retail and office space that will be utilized by small businesses to establish and grow their company.
Flagship City Commons in downtown Erie has been part of an ongoing revitalization project with the goal to build a more accessible and stronger downtown.
Currently it hosts restaurants, retail and office space, arts and entertainment experiences and more.
Funding has been provided through the Main Street Matters grant program. This program works to strengthen the downtown area and the neighborhoods surrounding it through restoration with aesthetic improvements while increasing safety and security.
