Firefighters rescued multiple people trapped by a fire that swept a home in Philadelphia’s Olney neighborhood overnight.
The fire broke out on Wellens Street overnight. NBC10 obtained video from the Citizens App showing flames shooting from the porch of a home, which damaged neighboring houses.
Officials said crews rescued several people who were initially trapped during fire, and they all got out safely. Families who lived in neighboring homes were also safely evacuated.

NBC10 spoke to a neighbor who lives next door. She mentioned that she was fortunate to be awake at the time, doing schoolwork, when she went downstairs and noticed the flames.
“I was like it can’t be a fire. I’ve always seen people’s houses on fire but I never thought it would be me,” said Gia Smith. “I was confused at first. Then we came downstairs and we tried to go through the front door but the fire was right in front of us. I started to get really scared because I thought I was going to be stuck.”
Fire officials said no one was taken to the hospital. Crews remained at the scene monitoring for hotspots.
