SCRANTON, Pa. – Genesee Valley Transportation and the Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad have unveiled their locomotive marking the 250th anniversary of American independence, repainting an M630 into a scheme inspired by Delaware & Hudson Bicentennial units.

No. 1776 is a former British Columbia Railway locomotive, previously numbered 3007. It was purchased from General Electric and rebuilt by the D-L’s Van Storch shops. Details of the paint scheme include two stars flanking the number on the cab, representing Pennsylvania’s status as the second state to ratify the U.S. Constitution, and painting of the locomotive bell to resemble the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia.
The railroad says the locomotive will take part in upcoming semiquincentennial festivities in Scranton, and will be on display during the visit by Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 in June.
