Two Pennsylvania representatives conducted an unannounced oversight visit to the Moshannon Valley Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center earlier Thursday, citing concerns about conditions at the facility. Congressman Chris Deluzio and Congresswoman Summer Lee, both Democrats, said they were allowed inside for about two hours, but their staff and translators were not permitted to enter. Representatives describe what they sawAfter the visit, the representatives shared a video on social media discussing their observations. “I mean, of course, we got, I think, a pretty sanitized tour, but we also had access to the women’s unit where they were quite willing to really lay out a lot of things that they’ve been going through. We met two pregnant women, one of whom, you know, has suffered from some bleeding. They told us that they’re not even sure the status of their pregnancy. We heard people talk about some of their abuse, some of the complaints that we heard about, you know, food and other things. Pretty revealing,” Lee said. “One thing that jumped out at me is we heard a lot about the population of people in here is mostly low security, as they call them. People who have not been charged with serious crimes.
