A Schuylkill County man was the passenger who died after a one-car crash on Route 183 in Bernville, Berks County Coroner Matthew J. Stitzel said Tuesday.

Stitzel said Keenan E. Cryts, 23, of Wayne Township died Sunday at 11:19 p.m. in Reading Hospital.

An autopsy by Dr. Neil Hoffman, a forensic pathologist, is scheduled for Wednesday in the hospital, Stitzel said.

Troopers at Reading gave this account:

Troopers responded just before 2 a.m. Sunday to a report of a crash with entrapment on Route 183, also known as Bernville Road, just north of North Fourth Street.

The car, driven by a 23-year-old male from Pottsville, was southbound on Route 183, crossed into the northbound lane, then struck a tree.

Cryts suffered severe injuries and was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

The driver was wearing a seat belt, but Cryts was not.

Troopers said an investigation continues and they are being assisted by the Berks County district attorney’s office and the coroner’s office.
