SPARTANBURG, S.C. (FOX Carolina) — In the most recent Spartanburg City Council meeting, the city council unanimously approved the first reading of a development agreement for the former City Hall block.
According to the city of Spartanburg, the development agreement is for a $71 million mixed-use development that will be constructed at 145 W. Broad St.
The development will feature 220 market-rate apartments and nearly 15,000 square feet of commercial space. Additionally, the project will feature a nearly 1,000-space parking garage centered on the block that will serve the development and the new joint city-county local government facility.
The city said wrapping the garage with the new development will create a more pleasing streetscape, improve the pedestrian experience and ensure active storefronts and residences front the block’s sidewalks.
The development plan also calls for extending a downtown spur of the Daniel Morgan Trail System along the Kennedy Street side of the block.
