Woman, 22, is shot to death in Allentown by her ex-boyfriend, cops say (UPDATE)

A 27-year-old South Whitehall Township man was in custody and facing homicide and related charges in a pre-dawn fatal shooting Tuesday, investigators said in a news release.

Adam Makowka shot and killed his ex-girlfriend in an apartment in the 700 block of West Turner Street in Allentown, according to court records filed by Allentown police.

He also fired shots in a bedroom with the intention of killing the woman’s infant son and another man, according to the court documents.

Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio on Wednesday morning identified the woman who was killed as 22-year-old Jerkera B. Battle.

She was found dead in a hallway, court records say.

Buglio said he ruled the death a homicide due to gunshot wounds. The shooting occurred about 4:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from the coroner’s office.

Court records say Makowka climbed the fire escape and entered his ex-girlfriend’s home through a door in the roof. He shot her with a rifle, records say.

He entered a bedroom with the rifle raised, then a man in the bedroom grabbed the barrel and held it until Makowka fired all the rounds, court records say.

Police found the rifle and some shell casings on the floor near the bedroom door, records say. They found a sweatshirt and rifle case belonging to Makowka on the roof, records say.

Surveillance video captured images of Makowka approaching and leaving the apartment, records say. The records mention there was a camera near the baby’s crib.

Authorities captured Makowka at 6:35 a.m. Tuesday about 60 miles south of Allentown at Hoffman Park in Lansdowne, Delaware County, and planned to extradite him to Lehigh County, according to Allentown police and court records.

Makowka didn’t answer a call placed to a number listed under his name. He did not have an attorney immediately listed in his online court docket.

Makowka, of the 3000 block of Congress Street, was scheduled to be arraigned on charges of criminal homicide, attempted homicide and two counts of aggravated assault, according to police and court records.
