Honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice was the focus of a Memorial Day ceremony held at Erie County Veterans Memorial Park.
Community members gathered to pay tribute to the nearly 1,000 individuals whose names are inscribed on the memorial. Each name represents a member of the Erie County community who lost their life while serving the United States, reflecting lives defined by courage, dedication, and commitment to the nation.
The ceremony served as a solemn reminder of the cost of freedom, with attendees taking time to reflect on the sacrifices made by service members and their families.
Lt. Colonel Alan Cornell, who has served in the U.S. Army for 36 years, delivered the keynote address. His remarks highlighted the importance of remembering those who gave their lives in service and encouraged the community to carry forward their legacy of honor and sacrifice.
The annual event brought together veterans, families, and residents, all united in remembrance and gratitude for those who gave everything in defense of the country.
